About Farman Fatehpuri:
Dr. Farman Fatehpuri is the reigning father of the Urdu language. A former chair of Urdu language at Karachi University, the editor of the most comprehensive dictionary of Urdu, scholar, author of scores of books (several on Ghalib ), Dr. Fatehpuri is most revered and respected for his literary contributions to Urdu. Dr. Farman Fatehpuri Born Syed Dildar Ali 1926 in Fatehpur (Haswa), son of Syed Ashiq Ali. Married to first cousin, Salma Begum in 1947 and have two sons, Syed Abrar Ali and Syed Absar Ali and two daugthers, Dr. Shamim Salman, Najma Hahsmi and Uzma Farman. |
Education:
Spent early years at home learning classical Urdu and Persian literature; entered school in 1933 and received high school graduation in 1946 from Islmia High School Fatehpur, Bachelor of Arts from Agra University in 1950, Bachelor of Law from S.M. Law College Karachi in 1953, Bachelor of Teaching in 1955, Master of Arts in 1958 and PhD in 1964 and D. Litt in 1974 from Karachi University.
